This week we take a look behind the scenes at Keats Estate Agents in Haslemere with Branch Manager Jim Stillwell. Here Jim discusses what he loves most about his role and what challenges he has faced in the recent property market.
Q: What experience do you bring to your role?
A: I have been an estate agent for more than 35 years, having worked in Haslemere for two decades and also in the Guildford area for 10 years. I worked with a corporate agent for 18 years before joining Keats and have extensive knowledge of the local property market and the experience to handle any issues that may crop up during the sales or lettings process.
Q: What do you enjoy most about working with Keats?
A: I know I am biased, but Keats is such a well-respected and professional estate and letting agents. I love being part of such an enthusiastic team, successfully selling and letting a large number of homes in the area. As a result of our truly personal service, we are fortunate to achieve a tremendous amount of repeat business and many 5-star reviews.
Q: What do you love about property in the Haslemere area?
A: I relocated to Haslemere from Guildford 33 years ago and there is a fantastic feel of camaraderie in the town. The properties, gardens and surrounding countryside and woodland is a big attraction for me, as it is for most people who are currently moving out of more built-up areas. It is an extremely popular town and as such Haslemere property is always highly sought after.
Q: What gives you the most satisfaction in your role?
A: On a day-to-day basis I love meeting and helping people find their perfect home. I do get the most satisfaction in helping sellers throughout the sales process, from valuation through to completion. Bringing a property to market is just the initial stage of the process and I always keep our clients well-informed at every stage to ensure their sale is as stress free as possible.
Q: What challenges have you faced in the recent market?
A: The current market is extremely strong with regrettably, insufficient housing stock to suit the great demand from proceedable applicants. There is a real dearth of family houses coming to market which in turn makes it very difficult for vendors wishing to move to larger homes.
Q: What do you enjoy doing in the local area?
A: Haslemere has so much to offer and there is an abundance of beautiful countryside to explore. I most enjoy walking with my family. It is a very peaceful and unspoilt area, and we can walk for hours without seeing any traffic.
